My courses are all based in the latest psychological research, good practice and are ethically designed. They can be delivered as they are or I am happy to work with individuals to fit them to specific needs.
If you chose my Fire Cover 12 month option, all these courses below are included.
As a manager we hold some responsibility in keeping those in our charge well. This can be seen as a daunting task, but it needn't be.
Most mental health problems stem from the environment we live in. Work is a huge part of most peoples environments.
Bringing together my experience of managing, suffering from mental ill health and psychological therapy, this 3 hour course is designed to teach middle managers the techniques of creating a psychologically safe workplace.
This course covers manager responsibility, boundaires, listening skills, emotional intelligence, stress risk assessemnts, wellness action plans, mental health tool kits and where to signpost others as well as ways to look after your own wellbeing..
In my opinion, this should be the starting point and bedrock of any mental health strategy. Understanding safeguarding, confidentiality and personal boundaries is a must in all psychological work.
Whilst no one is asking a manager or mental health first aider to be a therapist, these core skills are still just as vital to give a person the feeling of security and confidence to keep all staff safe.
Stigma is still an enormous barrier for people accepting help for mental health problems. I run two courses, one on toxic masculinity and one on my own story of mental ill health, both of which are 90 minutes.
My story of falling through positive mental health, poor mental health and into mental illness. This is a 90 minute honest and open look at the last 10 years of my life and how they changed me forever. My hope is that this story highlights how mental illness can manifest, how it shook my foundations and how I have learnt to manage anxiety.
What does the term "mental health" mean? Low mood or depression, stress or anxiety?
Designed to challenge some stereotypes about mental health, this course takes a look at the good, the bad and the illness.
In this 3 hour course we will openly discuss difficult emotions such as guilt and shame and normalise what these emotions are. We will also discuss the more chronic conditions like depression, anxiety and PTSD.
This course will also explore stress, the stress response and the true causes behind it.
This course culminates looking at a stress management plan, wellbeing action plan and mental health tool kits.
Psychological resilience is a term that is thrown around. But what is it? Is mental strength different to resilience? How do I build psychological resilience? In short, you learn to feel emotions better and ask what they are telling you. We all face adversity, resilience is the ability to better feel that adversity and respond what our emotions are telling us. My 90 minute resilience course can show you how best to do that.
Suicide is not an easy discussion to approach. But it may be the most important one you ever broach. This course is designed to look at why suicide occurs, the risk factors for people and how to spot signs and symptoms of it.
t will also cover how to keep people safe and who needs to be involved when someone is suicidal.
Related to suicide, men make up 3/4 off all suicides every year. Often mental health strategy's, talks or initiatives are generic and often fronted by women. This can leave out men and the strategy's they need, the issues they wish to talk about and the support men require.
I am not only a man who has struggled with his mental health, I work in a highly male orientated world and now the nuances well!
The goal of this course is to challange the stigma n
The minefield that is the mental health system can be tricky to navigate. What's the difference between a counsellor and psychologist? What does a diagnosis mean? Will anti depressants make me numb?
The goal of this course is to open the book on mental health support and care so that you know how and what to access, what to expect and what the future might look like.
Are you struggling to drift off? Or are the copious amounts of diets confusing? I have been a personal trainer within the UK Fire and Rescue service for over 10 years and the knowledge and experience I have gained from this has helped firefighters stay fit, well and sleep better. Let me pass that knowledge on to you!
Anxiety is a completely normal emotion. It is uncomfortable because its designed to be! The emotion is not wrong but sometimes the mechanism for it kicking in can be disordered.
The goal of this course is to take a deep dive into anxiety, look at it for what it is and learn ways to contraol or manage it! It also looks into mindfulness and how it can be used to manage difficult emotions.
After receiving mental health training, it can be a lonely and scary place to find yourself. Responsibility can flood in and things can be overwhelming.
If you and your staff wish, post any training, I can remain "on call" in case you, your managers or mental health first aiders require any support, guidance or supervision.
